Wema is a Swahili word meaning goodness, kindness, benevolence. Wema Wealth Africa is a non-governmental organisation established in 2020 and formally registered in 2025 to combat poverty and hunger across the continent — for women, youth, and persons with disabilities most affected by climate change and exclusion.

Vulnerable communities — particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities — become resilient when climate-smart livelihoods, quality healthcare, inclusive education, and dignified work are within their reach. That's the work.
Endline beneficiaries target
We work where the work is hardest — with smallholder farmers, women, youth, and persons with disabilities — alongside communities leading their own change.
Wema launches in 2 pilot counties in 2025 and scales to 4+ counties by 2029. Our 10-year goal is to reach 250,000 lives by 2034 across rural communities most affected by climate change and poverty.
60% goes directly to programs in the field — climate-smart agriculture, maternal care, education, and enterprise support. 20% strengthens local capacity, 15% funds monitoring, evaluation and research, and 5% covers lean administration. Every shilling is audited and accounted for.
Our six strategic pillars map directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union's CAADP framework. We contribute evidence and policy briefs to national, regional, and continental conversations on climate, health, and inclusion.

Mary Muia is a distinguished executive leader and organizational development specialist
with over two decades of dedicated experience in public health, global governance, and
gender advocacy. As the Founder & Director of WEMA WEALTH AFRICA, she spearheads
transformative grassroots initiatives designed to dismantle systemic barriers for adolescent
girls and young women, fostering environments where they can thrive and exercise their
agency.
Beyond her foundational work with WEMA WEALTH AFRICA, Mary serves as the
President of the Soroptimist International Africa Federation (SIAF) for the 2025/2026 term,
where she provides strategic direction and governance oversight for member clubs across
the continent. Her leadership is defined by a deep commitment to translating complex
international policies into actionable, sustainable community-level outcomes. Her
professional trajectory reflects a career-long dedication to Social Inclusion, Climate Action,
gender equality, health systems strengthening, and the advancement of the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs).
Mary’s expertise spans high-level board management, international policy advocacy, and
the design of programs focused on reproductive health and economic resilience. She
serves as the Chairperson of the Coalition for Health Research & Development (CHReaD)
Africa and serves on the executive board of the NGO Committee on Sustainable
Development-NY.’

Dennis Odhiambo Kere serves as the Business Development Specialist at WEMA Wealth Africa, bringing over 13 years of progressive experience in financial management, research, consultancy, and grants administration to the team. As a professionally registered Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA(K)) and a PhD candidate in Finance at Maseno University, Dennis leverages his strong foundation in financial analysis and policy development to drive the organization’s growth.
In his capacity at WEMA Wealth Africa, Dennis spearheads business development initiatives aimed at expanding the organization’s reach and impact. He is responsible for identifying and cultivating strategic partnerships that support the organization’s mission of community empowerment and resilience.
Prior to joining WEMA Wealth Africa, Dennis held key roles at RTI International as a Grants Manager, where he provided strategic oversight of financial activities and ensured compliance for multi-donor portfolios, including USAID and the Global Fund. His professional background also includes significant experience as a Finance Professional at PATH, where he managed full-cycle accounting processes and financial reporting.

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Education for Global Futures at the University of Oulu, Finland, Nelson bridges international academic insights with grassroots action. He has a proven track record in mobilizing large-scale youth networks, previously leading advocacy and gender projects that coordinated over 550 youth ambassadors across multiple Kenyan counties. His background in graphic design, social media management, and pedagogical research allows him to craft compelling narratives that amplify WEMA Wealth Africa’s impact on sustainable economic development and environmental sustainability.

At WEMA Wealth Africa, Austin directs localized projects focused on community-led environmental sustainability, inclusive value chains, and resource conservation. By introducing smallholder farmers and cooperatives to climate-smart technologies—including agroforestry integration, bio-intensive farming, and water-conserving irrigation—he empowers communities to build climate resilience while safeguarding vital resources like clean water.
Throughout his extensive career, Austin has built deep institutional trust with smallholder networks, private sector corporations, and non-profit social enterprises. His past leadership includes designing commercial farm layouts, spearheading the adoption of low-cost irrigation systems to pull families out of poverty, and training thousands of farmers on biological pest control and modern food safety standards. Austin is deeply passionate about localized market penetration, rural financial inclusion, and deploying “Farming as a Business” (FaaB) models to generate multi-generational wealth.

Notably, his strategic proposal engineering has assisted with frameworks for international models, including USAID NPI EXPAND, the European Union & Vi Agroforestry, the Lambwe Regreening Initiative, and the Safaricom Foundation.
Prior to joining WEMA Wealth Africa, Kepha served as the Business and Proposal Development Lead and Regional Program Coordinator for the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK), directing Resource Acquisition and Management (RAM) and large-scale projects like the USAID Jamii Tekelezi OVC program.
